General product description
- Easy to process (for a wide range of thicknesses) while maintaining good and versatile ballistic properties for any threat.
- Excellent flatness and uniformity, Mars® oil-hardened sheets are supplied with a guaranteed flatness of 3 mm/m.
- Excellent uniformity and reproducibility.
- Tight tolerances (+/-0.2 mm) are achievable from very thin sheets of 2.5 mm to medium thickness.
Product
Mars ® 280
Advantages
- Adapted metallurgical properties according
to specific requirements (chemical composition, hardness range, thickness range…)

Mars ® 380
Advantages
Adapted metallurgical properties according to specific requirements (chemical composition, hardness range, thickness range…)
Available in different grades:
- *Class 1: for vehicle structures
- *Class 3: for targets for evaluating armor-piercing ammunition.
Mars ® 440
Advantages
- A metallurgical solution that guarantees an excellent balance between strength and hardness.

Mars ® 550
Advantages
- Designed for applications where the weight of high-hardness armor is unacceptable,
but shop floor implementation does not allow for the use of ultra-high hardness armor.

Mars ® 600
A new metallurgical concept combining a hardness level of 600 HB with excellent ductility and toughness close to 500 HB material. Ultra-strong armour steel with very high ballistic performance and integration capabilities.
The first multi-purpose 600 HB steel with impressive ballistic performance in terms of deformability, resistance to multiple impacts and best-in-class machinability (mainly bending).
Advantages
- Impressive ballistic performance in terms of deformation capacity, resistance to multiple impacts and best-in-class machinability in its hardness class
Mars ® 650
Mars ® 650 is an ultra-high-hardness protective steel (typically 650 HBW) that provides uncompromising ballistic resistance performance for use as additional armor when weight reduction is important.
Easy integration into multi-material and composite solutions thanks to an incredible flatness of 3 mm/m.
Advantages
- Designed for additional armor when weight reduction is important, with easy integration into various materials.

Mars ® Perforated
Mars steels – can also be supplied in a perforated version with holes evenly spaced across the surface to interact with the diameter of the incoming threat. Incoming incendiary projectiles tend to break due to bending stress caused by impacts on the edges of the holes, and if they do not break, the projectiles are at least deflected from their trajectory, thus drastically reducing their residual penetration into the main armor. The holes reduce the areal density of the armor plate, and also limit the possible crack propagation, providing exceptional multi-hit capability.
This results in a mass efficiency close to ceramic/composite solutions, with much better multi-hit capability and easier integration. The use of a special perforation process results in very good flatness, no heat affected zone and low residual stress.
